Christmas

Christmas
The jolliest time of the year
Everyone is gathered in merry matters in the warmth of grandma and grandpa’s home
Ribbon, ornaments, and an angel dress the tree
While presents wrap around the bottom
As morning arrives, we enjoy each other’s company
While lounging around all day in pajamas
Throughout the day, Huskeropoly is played.
I don’t think a single game has ever been finished
After church, we have a fine feast.
While things are getting cleaned up, the kids sort the presents
Grandma and grandpa in their designated chairs
Ryan on the floor
Uncle Scott in the green chair in the corner
And Kyle in between him and grandma
Mom, Dad, then Ann
My grandpa sits right next to me
I finish the circle, up against the wall.
Youngest to oldest is how it goes
After presents we watch a movie
Simpsons Christmas or Back to the Future, which will it be?
As night draws near, our eyes begin to shut
And memories of the day play through everyone’s mind
As morning arrives, grandma and grandpa make waffles
Warm syrup, strawberries, sausage or bacon, sit at the table begging to be ate.
We depart later that day with our new treasures
Awaiting next, when it all happens again
J.K.
