Exception

Exception

Exception- a person or thing that is excluded from a general statement or does not follow a rule

This word has been said to me so many times in my life because of someone who is well-known around me. It is not this person's fault of course, but because of their status, I feel that I am automatically classified with specific characteristics. An exception is someone who does not follow a rule. I am so afraid to not follow the rules because of the standards I am held up to. Sometimes, I realize that I need to remind myself about my worth, that I am more than this word. I am more than any word that seems to lower my self-value. You are more than a simple word that may be used to "label" you. Now read that last sentence again.

Much love- WWJD<3

My ring

For 13 years I admired this ring sitting pretty in my mom’s jewelry dish. I waited for the day that it would be mine. The ring is known for being old, gold, and blue. My mother was gifted this ring on her 16th birthday by her father, my grandpa. It was a common accessory when I would play dress up as a child, but never quite fit. Eventually, as my little hands grew, dressing up became every day and I never took it off. My mom noticed me wearing her ring when I was 14, two years before it was supposed to be mine. On my 16th Birthday, it officially became mine even though I hadn’t taken it off for over two years. The last time my grandpa came to visit I was told the story of this ring I love so much. If you know my grandpa, you would know he is a funny man. He decided to tell me he got this beautiful piece of jewelry out of a game at the mall and it came in a plastic ball. He claimed he had waited until the last minute to find her a present so he got it in a rush. In reality, he had taken time to carefully pick it out long before her birthday. Eventually, my ring will be given to my daughter. I wonder if she will find it before it is time, like me.

Smell?

 Smell

Do I miss it?

Rain?

Yes it feigns.

Sweaty people or football boys?

Certainly not cowboys.

Perfume?

It does bloom.

Grass?

It surely has no class.

Lotion?

Most is the ocean.

Dinner or supper?

Don’t make me hunger.

Fresh cookies?

Most of all brookies.

Pigs or cows?

Wouldn’t squinch my eyebrows.

Softball glove?

It would have more love.

Danger! Danger!

Poison drink?

No one goes to the precinct.

Weed?

They can’t be a different breed.

No smoke?

I croak.

Lost Smell, where did you go?

Lost Smell, where did you go?

Down comes the rain with its graceful fall,

The sound it brings is soothing to the mind after a hard day’s work.

The beautiful sight it brings and the thunder that follows,

But something is gone.

The mountains reach the clouds,

Waterfalls are calmly flowing around.

Birds are chirping in the morning haze,

But something is gone.

The night sky is filled with stars,

And the cool breeze shifts through the trees.

The night is calm and peaceful,

But something is gone.

The sun rises over the horizon bringing birds to wake me,

Morning dew sets sweetly on the freshly cut grass.

The smells of last night’s rain have passed,

And the delightful scent of my mom’s chocolate chip cookies has wafted into my room.

It was just a dream, and what was once lost is now found.

The lost sense has returned.

Seeing Black

One day, I wake up, and my life is changed forever.

I grumble, and open my eyes, yet see nothing.

I reach frantically to see if I have a blanket over my face.

Or maybe it’s a bad dream.

No.

I begin to freak out, hoping this is something that’ll pass.

Yet it doesn’t.

My car sits useless, for even under the conditions I’ve driven effortlessly before, I can’t.

I can no longer ride bikes, motorcycles, drive a car, or skateboard.

For a second, I begin to relax.

No.

Everything I have ever known has come crashing down around me.

I can’t cook, all the bags feel the same.

Now I have to learn braille, and yet I thank God I still have my hearing.

I still feel, I still smell, I still walk.

So much to live for, and with.

Yet my largest part of my life has been stripped away.

I come to terms with the fact that I will no longer see my friends, family, pets.

I come to terms with the fact that there are no more mountain views.

I come to terms with the fact that there has been an end to my late night cruise.

I come to terms with the fact that I can never watch a movie, or anything again.

I come to terms with the fact that, that, I can’t do this anymore.

No.

At least I can no longer pass judgment, as no sight disallows me to do such.

I am free.

Am I free?

No.

Time to me is a construct, as the days are to me as the nights.

At the very least, I can finally sleep well, for if I open my eyes I shall see nothing new.

Yet maybe that’s what still prevents me from sleeping.

For in my dreams I see, and when I wake up I see nothing.

“Life’s a dream” has become a reality to me.

I find solace in my sleep.

No.

I come to terms with the fact that my life has changed forever.

And I’m damn sure that I’m going to make the change for the better.

I pack away my sorrows, and begin anew.

Life

Life is the rushing winds of a tornado.

A small girl named Claire from Rhode Island is about to discover that.

The wind whips past her, howling and screaming.

It shoves her face first into the ground, only to pick her back up again.

“Oh Lissy,” I will yell, “When will you ever learn?”

Claire stands in the middle of life watching everything swirl up and around her.

Her whole life up in the air.

She will fly around with it though, spectating her life from a different angle.

Watching the pink elephants and blue dogs of her life fly around in a circle of unpredictability.

But is life really a tornado or is it a gentle stream of choice

A stream that tastes of freedom and smells of possibilities.

Maybe it’s not…

“My butt doesn’t like exercise”

Maybe it's fast-flowing water with no choice in which way it must go.

Continuing in a straight forced line forged by those before her.

But maybe it is just a calm, steady wind guiding her in the right direction.

If she has fallen down, then her only option is to fly.

One day I will trip over the sky and fall to the heavens

Because Bro when you're at the bottom up is the only way to go.

When life feels quiet then maybe there's a need for change.

یہ صرف شروعات ہے۔   -------- This is just the start

The winds rush past carrying all the memories of the past and the plans for the future.

One spinning confusing circle of the story of our lives.

The Lost Smell

 Oh the flowers,

The smell of flowers.

Just gone like that.

What about the food?

Oh the food.

Just gone like that.

Oh the candles,

The calming smell of candles.

Just gone like that.

The fresh smell of rain?

Oh the rain,

Just gone like that.

Oh the lotions.

The soothing smell of lotion,

Just gone like that.

Everything that you have ever loved,

Just gone like that.

A Cursed Castle

 A Cursed Castle

The ground is the blanket holding in the heat of the underworld.

The castle sits atop the souls of darkness.

Queen Victoria dances in England.

The smell of roses filled the garden.

The red beauties caught the eye of all.

The sounds of the garden sent a relaxing wave through the guests.

Buddy exclaimed. This party is so litty!

You could see the music dance among the ton.

The golden square of blossoms was the spinner of yarns at the ball.

The garden smelled not of roses but of fire and gunpowder.

The rose can not be tasted or the simple bystander shall become enemy.

The deceiving monsters pierced the skin of their foes.

The smoke caused the air to clear in order for the stars to be seen.

What if he's wanted in Wyoming and will never come home?!

The Ball Gowers checked their iPhones for the news and updates.

Get to the Living room to turn on the television.

The barbaric butterflies had staged the attack.

Buddy had to start the evacuation.

Pictures jumped off the walls to warn the guests.

Opustite toto miesto, kým môžete, Leave this place while you can.

The end will come after 40 nights.

The music danced alone through the halls.

Waiting

We are a little over a month into school and I've been patiently waiting for Christmas break, but unfortunately, it's taking forever. I'm so tired of school and need time to speed up. How long do I plan to complain about this? probably for the next 3 months.

Foosball

In two days we play our 4th game against DC West. So far we are 3-0, and I am a firm believer in "no guarantees", so we have to earn every yard and score in this game. My recognition is finally paying off. I have spent almost a year now with extra time in the weight room. I would wake up before school during basketball season to lift, then quit golf to hit the weight room in the spring. I had this drive because for years I have lacked the strength and athletic ability to compete at a varsity level. Now with hard work, dedication, and a crap ton of creatine, protein, and muscle building, I am able to roll whoever is lined up against me. I can say with confidence that I have worked harder this year than 90% of the people I go up against. All of this is for one final and ultimate goal, to play a chip game at the UNL Memorial Stadium. #Bodybags

Playing in the Dirt

Playing in the Dirt

Like a child’s toy in the hands of a rambunctious toddler, my body winds and unwinds.

One right after the other. Swing after swing, chasing greatness.

A soft breeze blows on the back of my neck.

One foot in front of the other, I trot along in search of a white globe covered in dimples.

I spot it sitting in the remnants of an old dirt patch that had once prospered with little green strings growing up from its roots.

As I looked at the other brown patches surrounding it, I couldn’t help but wonder…

Wonder about the stories those patches could tell.

Was it a beautiful, flush nine iron to the green resulting in birdie?

Were the individuals having the time of their lives, laughing and living life to the fullest in the most glorious setting on earth?

Or perhaps it was a chunky piece of pie that only flung three feet.

Only the clump of green strings that was once there, thriving on the surface, can answer.

And so, I chug along, writing my own piece of history in the dirt that I leave behind.

Swing after swing, divot after divot, leaving my mark for those who follow behind to see.

Fly By.

We start off ready to go

everyday we get up on time

months go by and its Christmas break

" I don't remember anything" I say

soon its February the red colors everywhere I go.

Then march and green is everywhere

"Finally it's Easter break" I sign with relief

waking up gets harder when I realize its for school

The temperature get's warmer so I start going outside for morning and night walks

'ITS MAY" I wake up ready for these last two weeks

Schools out and now I turn 16

time really does fly by.

Rain

I wish it could always rain
feeling every single droplet on me
it's the only thing going on in my brain

Months without rain make me go insane
most people I know would agree
I wish it could always rain

Rain makes me feel at peace I explain
I'm the door and rain is the key
it's the only thing going on in my brain

I can't keep my excitement contained
I just have to let them free
I wish it could always rain

I have to wait until next time again
until then I won't be happy
it's the only thing going on in my brain

Feeling like I was on a happy train
but now i'm in misery
I'll see you again
I wish it could always rain

Subject Poem

I figure everyone has had uncomfortable moments in school

Even though in 10 years that embarrassment might not matter.

Trying to converse with people who have no filter,

Talking in front of class and being out of your element

And struggling to find the oxygen to breathe.

Balancing work, school, and sports at the same time.

Having no idea how to do any of your math equations

Sometimes you have to force yourself through the average day

Trying to combine friend grounds and finding they don’t mix well

Bad times only make up a small percentage of school

But you just might not have the energy required that day

It’s all about the next day’s potential to be better

How To Poem

Find a course that is twelve hours long

And spend four days working through it

Spend most of your time trying to figure out what the tutor is even talking about

Or troubleshooting decade old bugs

A thirty hour wait isn’t too bad

Certainly I won’t need to use my computer for the next two days

Think you can put off learning the important parts for a little longer

And that will be six hundred dollars a month for the software you’ll use once

Have fun learning fifty keyboard shortcuts

Because the designers of this stuff have never heard the word “intuitive” before in their lives

A good workflow is months of hopelessness followed by a week of creative passion

Never make a presentable final product

Because the next thing you make will surely turn out better

These I have Loved

Laughing, this I do everyday from giggles to laughing.
Rainy days or storms that sound like strikes from Zeus.
Rocks from every shape and color.
The Sun shining on me feeling every sun ray on my skin
The moon, looking into the sky at night with the moon and stars shining
Summer mornings with the birds chirping and the sun rising
Music, the sound waves going ear to ear with each beat
Spirituality, Being able to feel things more in your soul and not your head
Therapy, being able to connect with yourself more mentally
Walking for hours and seeing everything around you move along with you
Poetry with every line filled with emotion
Myself, from the way I talk and my personality
Gold jewelry, complementing my melanin skin tone
Communication connecting with the soul and showing how we feel
Nature, connecting with nature and being able to feel relaxed
Peace, Peace with yourself and the universe
Being at the park, your inner child being able to come out

Road Poem

Here we pretended to be scared of the biggest kid in class

Here was my first day in a new school

Here I learned I had Type One Diabetes

Here was the first time I spent the night at a friend’s house

Here I decided to join Cross Country

Here we brought home our dog

Here I had to say my final goodbye to our cat

Here we spent New Years with our grandparents

Here I learned to ski for the first time

Here I had to remember how to ski

Here we traveled across the country on our trip to Maine

Here leads us to now

Stolen Lines Poem

“Cash, I presume?”

He knows how little I have.

I wasn’t in on the joke

Willy: Charley, I’m strapped, I’m strapped. I don’t know what to do. I was just fired.

Confusion distorts the face

“He never told us that.”

Later, times get tougher

Options run out

“No, I found her in the house.”

I watch a man burning his own house

And a man struck down by a car.

Charley: It was a very nice funeral.

Home

what makes me feel like I'm Home...
Watching the sunset becoming a beautiful sight of stars.
Sitting in the cold rain just feeling each drop fall on me.
Summer sun rays shining on me after getting out of the pool.
Music blasting or playing very quietly in my ear consuming every bit of sound.
Meaningful poems that hit with every bit of emotion at once.
Every small thing means the world to me.
Everything means Home to me.

Christmas

Every year for Christmas we have certain traditions that we follow at my grandparents’ house. It always lasts pretty much the entire day, we eat lunch and supper at her house. When opening presents the order is always youngest to oldest, and loops back around once everyone has opened their first present. We also have gift exchanges, where everyone gets someone else a gift. After opening presents, my grandma will bring down a basket of miscellaneous items. Everyone’s name is called and each person gets to pick something from the basket. It will range from utility items to cheap toys she found for a dollar or two. It’s a lot of fun seeing all of the little trinkets she bought for the family that year. Everyone always brings a dish for the Christmas dinner, and leftovers are had for supper. The celebration always lasts into the night, until everyone has slowly trickled out of their house. The next day we go to visit our grandparents who live in Fremont, which is a much smaller and more casual celebration.

Sestina Poem

There’s something on the horizon, a storm

is coming. It’s late in the day, a long shadow
is cast. I watch from inside a bird fly.
On the TV there are warnings of a tornado.
Outside it starts to blow. Wind
shakes the leaves from trees. I pull a blanket close.

Danger grows close.
News of the storm
is drowned out by the wind.
Something approaches silently like a shadow.
It formed too quickly to have prepared for the tornado.
Trash is thrown, it seems to fly.

All the animals have ran, birds no longer fly
Danger comes close,
I move downstairs away from the tornado.
I can hear the storm
passing overhead, hiding in the basement’s shadow.
A sound like screaming comes from the wind.

I can feel the house being shaken by the wind.
It’s wet down here, pools of water form and a fly
buzzes by. The dim light bulb cast a yellow shadow.
I huddle in a corner, bringing arms and legs close.
Over the radio the storm
rages on, news is broadcasted about the tornado.

Time passes and the tornado
starts to let up, wind
dies down. I’m in the eye of the storm.
Upstairs, I can see debris fly
in the distance. I close
an opened door, and my home is filled with shadow.

It’s night now, and a single street lamp casts a shadow.
I can no longer see the wall of the tornado.
I go back to the basement, and close
The door behind me. I can hear wind
start to pick back up. The fly
rejoins my company. Hours pass until the end of the storm.

The storm is gone. Shadow
seems to envelope the world. The fly has left with the tornado.
Wind pushes my door, again, close.

Metal

There is a tale of a small town located in the middle of a forest that has been terrorized for hundreds of years. The townsfolk have described the horrifying creature as some form of metal sphere, about three feet in diameter and supernaturally polished. It is said that the being rolls around town bumping into the legs of any unsuspecting victims. Citizens are terrified to leave their homes, only venturing out when only necessary, like mailing a letter or getting a haircut. The ball has been seen rolling down the cobblestone streets, somehow never becoming scratched. There have been stories told about times when people have almost lost their balance after being bumped into.

The residents call it the “Chrome Devil” and as far as anyone knows it has been around since the beginning of time. Some lunatics who have long lost their minds have suggested that the creature actually doesn’t mean any harm and it technically hasn’t done anything wrong. These people, of course, should not be listened to. There have been efforts in the past to destroy the evil that haunts the village, but to no avail. Spears, pitchforks, knives, swords, and even bullets do no damage, seemingly bouncing off of its reflective metal surface. Currently there seems to be no hope for the residents, especially considering that their community is so isolated.

So far, there have been no attempts to contain the ball, as it is theorized that it is too powerful to be trapped. Many have tried to flee the town, only to find the metal sphere sitting in the middle of the road leading out of the town. Not wanting to hurt its feelings, all have immediately turned around and returned to their homes. No one is quite sure when, if ever, this evil presence will leave their village. In an interview with the local sheriff on what they plan to do to save the residents, he said “Yeah, I’m not really sure. We’ve tried asking it to leave, but it kind of just bumped into us and we got out of there pretty quickly.”

Identity

I’ve always been a charitable man. In fact, I’ve dedicated my life to charity work. I started my own homeless shelter, funded by my own money. I found the joy of giving when I was very young at the public park. I was there with my mother, and I had met another boy there who was all alone. Looking back, it was obvious that he wasn’t well off: his entire body was dirty and there were dark rings under his eyes. At the time I didn’t connect all of the details, but I enjoyed playing with the boy. As we were about to leave, I asked my mother if she had any candy in her purse. She wasn’t sure, but after a bit of digging produced a sucker. I handed it to the boy as we were leaving, and seeing the joy on his face ignited my love for caring for the less fortunate.

This is why my current predicament is confusing to me. Somehow, I have found myself in the middle of a bank robbery along with a gang of other masked men. I can not remember how I got here, or recall the names of any of the masked men. I was stunned to realize that I was here, and not only that, but I am also pointing the gun in my hands at a defenseless woman. It feels as though I am watching myself from the inside of my own head. I can hear myself shouting orders, and watch myself angrily wave the gun in the air. I have no control over what is happening. I am trapped in my own mind while my body goes on without me, doing everything against what I worked so hard for. I hear a large explosion, and shortly after a couple more masked men come running around the corner, bags of money slung over their shoulders. I watch myself follow them, pile into a van, and go screeching down the road. Helplessly, I watch as I shoot at the cops chasing us, leaning out of a window. I watch chaos unfold through the city as the chase goes on.

Suddenly, I am back at my shelter for the homeless. I am in the kitchen, I have control over myself again. Shocked at the events I had seen unfold through my own eyes, I stumbled over to a chair to sit down. I have no idea if what I saw was real, it had all felt like a horrible nightmare. I reach into my pocket, and a wad of dollar bills suggested the truth.

Seasonal Anxiety

Every season is seasonal anxiety
But fall is when I'm at my worst.
It feels as if I can't breathe
but my lungs are overfilling with air about to explode.
Big sweaters and baggy jeans are always comforting.
but in the back of my mind, I still think
"Is everyone watching me? Am I going insane?'
I try everything to calm down but nothing works
From the pumpkin scent to leaves falling
I still cannot find a soothing way to calm down.
