Man in the Mirror

The Man in the Mirror

Once upon a terrible time, a man named Connor was told his best friend was murdered.
He had been best friends with Josh since preschool. When he was told these sorrow filled news he was
devastated.  Josh was the only person he ever trusted after his parents died in that terrible accident. They
have been partners at the detectives unit in his old town he used to live in. They caught many people.  Some
could say they were the best detectives. Everyone loved them! But one day Connor and Josh took a
horrifying case. After Connor was sent to the hospital with a broken arm and many stab wounds they both
decided it was best if they hung their hats onto the dusty hat rack.  Connor decided he would take out his
old dusty detective hat one more time for his friend. Josh was the kind of person who would do anything
for justice, so Connor decided to do the same.
Connor went to the crime scene, he found absolutely nothing.  No blood, suffocation tool, or even a spec
of any type of clue.  Connor thought long and hard, and the name stabbed him like a knife.  Allan West,
he had always hated Josh. When they had first become detectives he was the first one they caught.  He
had recently escaped jail, it was him, Connor was sure of it!
He went to the only place Allan would go if he escaped.  After the long drive to the Deadwoods
he ventured into the mist.  I must remind you of this small detail before I continue this dredded
story.  Connor was alone. Fog rolled out of the woods like lost souls looking for a way out.
The trees seemed to have sorrow filled eyes upon the rough bark. As Connor walked he swore he
heard the screams and whispers of all the monsters and demons that lurk in the Deadwoods.
Connor saw the old shack, the Devil’s Cave, in the middle of the woods. He cautiously tiptoed towards the house. The closer he got the less scared he was. When he made it up the broken
concrete steps he looked in the window and what he saw was mortifying.  It was Allen staring
back at him with blood smeared across his face, tears in his eyes, but the only emotion he showed
was a blank stare. His face slid into the abyss of darkness. The door creaked open and stupid
Connor walked into the home. Connor saw only darkness but he had a suspicion that someone
was watching, waiting, and listening for him.  Suddenly, he felt a hand on his shoulder and a deep raspy voice say,
“This is the end Connor.”
The hand gripped tighter and tighter.  It felt like claws digging into his arm.  Connor let out a blood
curdling scream. The hand covered his mouth so Connor tried to break free but he couldn’t.  The creature
threw him on the ground face first onto the splintered hardwood floor. Connor was now scared for his
life.  He still didn’t know what had hold of him. As Connor struggled, he could smell all the dead bodys
and he could see what looked like the outline of Allen's body.  Allen always had a flashlight in his pocket,
he would knock people out with it if they annoyed him. Suddenly Connor had an idea, he just needed to
get free. When he got his arm free  the creature took his arm again but this time he broke the bone in his
upper arm with its horrifying strength. Connor screamed in agony. The creature was clawing him.
Connor tried to crawl away but his arm hurt to much, he just wanted to let the beast kill him but he thought
himself, what would Josh do?
Connor reached for the flashlight again this time he got it.  He rolled over and turned on the flashlight.
Nothing was there.  Connor stood up very shakily holding his arm to his chest. His clothes were torn, he
had cuts so deep he felt like they bore into his bones.  Connor looked around the room only to find nothing
there except for Allen’s body lying on the floor and a strange mirror on the wall. He walked towards it.
In the mirror he saw his reflection, or was it him? It was a man who looked almost exactly like him but
something didn’t seem right. This man had a twisted smile.  His eyes were glowing red, his face was a
pale color, and nothing was wrong with this man other than the fact that blood covered his face. Not a
single scratch was there.  Connor lifted his good arm to only see the man in the mirror did not. It laughed
a petrifying laugh. The man in the mirror looked Connor in the eye and said in the same tone of voice he
heard earlier.

“You’re next.”
He laughed maniacally again and disappeared.  Connor ran to his car as fast as he could with the feeling

of someone following.  He got in his car and looked into his rearview mirror and almost cried when he saw
the man sitting in the back seat of his car holding a knife covered in blood dripping from the tip.  He
turned to see nothing in the back seat, he looked in the rearview mirror the man was gone. Connor drove
to the hospital and they gave him medicine to help the pain, and he also got a sling for his arm.  Connor
decided to go check out Josh's house one more time.
He walked in and went to the room where Josh died.  He looked where his body once laid. Tears rolled
down his face.  He wished he could have been there to help him or to know what happened.  Connor
looked around the room and his face went as pale as the moon when he saw it.  Connor saw a little hand
held mirror lying on the floor. He picked it up but didn’t dare look into it.  He had a thought that could
solve everything if he was right.
He took the mirror and made it so he could see where Josh's body once laid.  There was his body covered
in cuts and his clothes were torn, there were many stab wounds.  Connor dropped to his knees sobbing.
He took a final look in the mirror and it was the man.
“Why would you do this?!  Why couldn’t this have been me?!”
The man’s twisted smile appeared again. “You mean, Why did YOU do this?”
The man disappeared and this time did not come back.  Connor wept and then heard the front door burst

open.
“ This is the police we need you to come with us for the murder of Josh Johnson.  Connor, I hope you
know we are all disappointed in you.”
The police officers cuffed Connor and took him to prison and showed him the security camera footage
of him murdering Josh.  Connor cried harder.
“That's not me” Connor wept.
“How do you explain that? We caught you. You’re done, we have the footage.”
“IT’S NOT ME!”  Connor plead for innocence but they locked him up.  They will never understand
how Josh died, not even the day Connor died the same way in his cell with a mirror in his hand.
