Once upon a time...
a girl discovered her life was not a fairytale
it wasn't some book or movie
In Disney prince charming never rides away with another girl
In Pixar, there isn't a damsel in distress because the man of the hour decided to take off and join the marines
See on tv you see our prince ride back just in time on his white horse
he swoops up the damsel in distress and rides away into the sunset
In sweet home Alabama they send letters while he's over seas
she keeps each one and one day he stumbles back into her life and they fall in love all over again
like it was the first time
our damsels melt into the eyes of their hero and the distress is gone
Why is it that in my fairy tales the glass slipper shattered
and despite the kissing of frogs none of them have turned out to be a prince
I learned the hard way
crying at midnight waiting for a fairy godmother that would never come
why is it there is no beast to my beauty
why is there no man to wake me from my slumber with a kiss to end all travesty
in Disney, a tear rolls down their cheek, and just like magic all is healed
please tell me why tear after tear hitting my pillowcase just isn't enough
happily are for holly wood
they don't exist until written on pages and thrown to the screens
this is the real world
no one is coming to take you on a magic carpet ride
you don't get three wishes from a genie
animals won't help you get ready in the morning
and you don't get to ride into the sunset
yet i just can't stop holding on
to the possibility of my own fairy tale ending
"and they lived happily ever after"
is that too much to ask for
