This I Believe

Freshman year of high school, I chose to take Intro to Agriculture, Foods, and Natural Resources. The impact of that decision is now greater than I could have ever imagined. Just a short four years later, I have chosen to pursue a career as an agricultural teacher.

I have been around agriculture my whole life. Growing up on a farm has taught me many life skills that I will forever cherish. Whether I was learning from my parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, or uncles, I was left with memories that will last a lifetime.

Living on a farm provides my family with a lifestyle. The crops we grow give us the feed we need for our animals, and the animals we feed give us food to put on our table. I love working with our cows and taking care of them. Seeing them as babies and having the ability to raise them until they are fully grown is truly rewarding. Cows are my life. Agriculture is the future of the world. Without it, I would be lost, as would billions of people across the world because agriculture feeds the world.

Agriculture has taught me how to be independent, self-sufficient, and dedicated to my work, and most of all, it has given me a good work ethic. I did not choose to be a part of agriculture, it chose me, through my parents, and my grandparents…

So, I believe in the future of agriculture, with a faith born not of words, but of deeds. I believe in educating individuals on the importance of agriculture and serving by doing, instead of saying. I believe that agriculture provides me with a future, a job, and most of all, a hobby that I love spending time with.
